The meaning

What Sakinah means in Islam

The Qur'an says He sent down tranquillity into the hearts of the believers (Qur'an 48:4), and describes it arriving in the cave when the Prophet peace be upon him told Abu Bakr not to grieve (Qur'an 9:40). It is spoken of as given rather than produced. It is not the same as being calm by temperament, and its absence in a hard moment is not a sign that a person has been abandoned.
