The meaning
What Nasikh and Mansukh means in Islam
The Qur'an raises the idea itself, and the clearest example is the change of qiblah from Jerusalem to the Kaaba. Early scholars listed hundreds of cases, often using the word loosely for any narrowing or qualifying of a general rule. Later scholars tightened the definition sharply, and Shah Waliullah held that only about five genuine cases remain; the count is still debated.
