The meaning
What Mudtarib means in Islam
The word describes something shaking, unsteady on its feet. If one version can be shown to be stronger, the problem disappears and the weaker is simply set aside; idtirab is declared only when the versions are of equal weight and cannot be reconciled. It is a rare verdict, and it makes the hadith weak.
