The meaning

What Mu'allaq means in Islam

The word means hung, as though the chain dangles with nothing above it. Al-Bukhari includes many mu'allaq reports in his Sahih, and scholars read them by their wording: those he states firmly, in the active form, are generally reliable and usually connected elsewhere in the book, while those he introduces with a passive form such as it is narrated are weaker. Ibn Hajar traced their full chains in a separate work.
