The meaning

What Mandub means in Islam

Literally, something invited or called to. Legal theorists prefer mandub, while practical books of fiqh usually say mustahabb or simply sunnah. Hanafis grade the recommended further, into sunnah mu'akkadah, which the Prophet kept up consistently, and mustahabb or nafl, which he did from time to time. On that grading, habitually dropping a sunnah mu'akkadah is blameworthy, though it is not sin in the way abandoning a fard is.
