The meaning
What Nafaqah means in Islam
The Qur'an sets the measure by means, telling a man of wealth to spend from his wealth and one whose provision is straitened to spend from what Allah has given him. It is owed regardless of the wife's own income, since whatever she owns or earns remains hers alone. It continues through the waiting period after a revocable divorce, and a father's duty to maintain his children does not end when the marriage does.
