The meaning
What Malak al-Mawt means in Islam
The Qur'an says: the angel of death, who has been put in charge of you, will take you, then to your Lord you will be returned (Qur'an 32:11). The name Izra'il is widely used but does not come from the Qur'an or from an authentic hadith, where he is simply called the angel of death. Narrations describe helpers who assist him in taking souls.
