The meaning
What Faskh means in Islam
Grounds recognised across the schools include serious undisclosed illness, impotence, insanity, desertion, imprisonment, failure to maintain, and harm. Malikis are the broadest here, allowing dissolution for harm in general, which is why courts in many countries follow them on this point even where another school prevails. Faskh differs from talaq because it uses up none of the husband's pronouncements, and from khul' because it requires no payment from the wife.
