The meaning
What Hasan Sahih means in Islam
Read literally it sounds like calling one thing good and excellent at once. The best known explanation, from Ibn Hajar, is that where the hadith has a single chain the phrase means some scholars judged it hasan and others sahih, and where it has several chains one is hasan and another sahih. Other scholars read it differently. It is safest to treat the phrase as meaning acceptable rather than as a precise grade.
