The meaning
What Fitrah means in Islam
The Qur'an speaks of the fitrah of Allah upon which He made people (Qur'an 30:30), and the Prophet peace be upon him said that every child is born upon the fitrah, in Bukhari and Muslim. It is not a memory of doctrine but a leaning, and it is easily covered over by habit and upbringing. In fiqh the same word names the acts of natural cleanliness, which is a separate meaning of one root.
