The meaning

What Ash'ari means in Islam

Al-Ash'ari trained among the Mu'tazila and then left them, turning their own methods toward defending the positions of the people of hadith. The school became associated with Shafi'i and Maliki scholarship, and with figures such as al-Ghazali, al-Razi and al-Nawawi. On the difficult attribute verses it tends toward interpretation or consignment rather than literal wording. It is one of the three creed schools recognised within Ahl al-Sunnah.
