عَمَلُ أَهْلِ المَدِينَة
Amal Ahl al-Madinah
The living practice of Madinah, treated by Malik as evidence that can outweigh a single chain report.
Also written · Amal ahl al-Madina · Amal ahlul Madinah · Amal e ahl e Madina · Practice of the people of Madinah · Madinan practice · Ijma ahl al-Madinah · Amal ahli Madina · Amal ahle Madina · Practice of Madinah
The meaning
What Amal Ahl al-Madinah means in Islam
Malik's argument was that an act performed by a whole city in the Prophet's own town, generation after generation, reaches us by mass practice rather than by one man's memory. The Malikis therefore give it weight in law. The other three schools do not accept it as binding and give priority to the authentic report. The disagreement is about how transmission works, not about respect for the Sunnah.
