عَمَلُ أَهْلِ المَدِينَة

Amal Ahl al-Madinah

The meaning

What Amal Ahl al-Madinah means in Islam

Malik's argument was that an act performed by a whole city in the Prophet's own town, generation after generation, reaches us by mass practice rather than by one man's memory. The Malikis therefore give it weight in law. The other three schools do not accept it as binding and give priority to the authentic report. The disagreement is about how transmission works, not about respect for the Sunnah.
