The meaning

What 'Ujb means in Islam

The Qur'an tells people not to claim purity for themselves (Qur'an 53:32). Scholars distinguish it from kibr: kibr needs someone to look down on, while 'ujb only needs a mirror. It is treated by remembering that the ability, the opportunity and the guidance were all given, and by noticing how quickly a deed you are proud of stops feeling sincere.
