The meaning
What Takbirat al-Ihram means in Islam
Ihram here means entering a sanctified state, the same root as the pilgrim's ihram. Once you say the opening takbir, eating, speaking and turning away are no longer permitted until the closing salam. Smaller takbirs then mark each change of posture through the prayer.
