The meaning
What Ijazah means in Islam
An ijazah is a link in a living chain: the holder can say he received this book from his teacher, who received it from his, back to the author. It is weaker than hearing every word in person, and scholars debated how much weight it carries on its own. It is still issued today, most often for the Qur'an and for the six books.
