The meaning

What I'jaz al-Qur'an means in Islam

The challenge is made in stages within the Qur'an, from producing ten surahs like it down to a single surah, addressed to the finest speakers of a language that prized poetry above everything. Classical scholars located the miracle mainly in the arrangement and cadence of the Arabic, not only in what is said. Modern claims about scientific miracles are a separate and much more contested argument.
