The meaning
What Mufassir means in Islam
Classical scholars set a demanding bar here, since an error is an error about the speech of Allah. The one thing a mufassir may never do is state what a verse means on the strength of personal opinion alone. Any reader may reflect on the Qur'an; explaining it authoritatively to others is a trained job.
