The meaning
What Husayn ibn Ali means in Islam
When Mu'awiyah died and rule passed to his son Yazid, Husayn refused to pledge allegiance and set out for Kufa on the invitation of its people. They abandoned him, and he was surrounded at Karbala with a small band of family and followers, cut off from water, and killed with most of the men of his household. The Prophet had said that he and Hasan were the masters of the youth of Paradise. His death remains one of the deepest wounds in Muslim memory.
