The meaning
What Halal means in Islam
The word means loosed or untied. In ordinary worldly matters the default is permission, so the burden of proof lies on whoever claims a thing is forbidden, not on the person doing it. In food it usually means meat slaughtered properly and free of pork, blood and intoxicants. But halal covers earnings, speech and work at least as much as it covers dinner.
