The Equitable

The essay
Qist is the fair portion: the word used for balancing scales and for giving each party what is due. The Name itself is not applied to God as a noun in the Qur'an; what the Book says instead is that He loves those who act with equity, and it says it three times. The Name is drawn from the enumeration, and its meaning is stated in the Book as a preference: which is a stronger thing than a description.

فَأَصۡلِحُواْ بَيۡنَهُمَا بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَأَقۡسِطُوٓاْۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُقۡسِطِينَ
Make peace between them justly, and be equitable. Allah loves those who are equitable.
