The Ninety-Nine Names · the 87th name
الْجَامِع
Al-Jami'
The Gatherer, who will bring all together
- The rootج م ع
- From the rootjama'a: to gather, to bring together what was scattered
The essay
He gathers. The verse is a prayer said by people of understanding: our Lord, You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. The scattering is total, bodies to dust, families across centuries, deeds forgotten by everyone including the doer, and the gathering is described as certain. The same Name is also read of the smaller gatherings: the reunion, the reconciliation, the scattered heart pulled back into one piece.
In the Qur'an
Our Lord, You are the Gatherer of mankind for a Day of which there is no doubt. Allah does not break His promise.
this Name is in the Qur’an
What it asks of you
