Hajj · a Light
Hajj done cleanly returns a person to day one
The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever performs the pilgrimage and does not speak or act obscenely, and does not commit wickedness, returns as he was on the day his mother bore him. The two named faults are worth noticing. Neither is a ritual error. They are coarseness and losing your temper with the people around you, which is the likeliest thing to happen to anyone who has spent five days in a crowd of millions in great heat, sleeping on the ground and queueing for water. The hardest part of the pilgrimage is not the walking, and the condition attached to the reward is conduct rather than technique.
