Hajj · a Light

The farewell sermon was delivered from the back of a camel

In Dhul Hijjah of the year 632, on the plain of Arafah, the Prophet ﷺ addressed the largest gathering he ever spoke to, from the back of his camel, with a man repeating his words to the crowd behind. Jabir ibn Abdullah, then a young man, gave a long account of the whole pilgrimage that runs to several pages in Muslim's collection. The sermon cancelled outstanding blood feuds, starting with a claim owed to his own family, cancelled the interest owed to his own uncle first of all, told the men that their wives have rights over them, and in the version preserved in other collections stated that no Arab has any superiority over a non Arab except in God consciousness. He died within three months.
