The meaning

What Tawbah means in Islam

The Qur'an calls for a sincere turning, tawbatan nasuha (Qur'an 66:8). Scholars list the conditions as leaving the sin, regretting it, resolving not to repeat it, and, where a person's right was taken, returning it or seeking their pardon. The Prophet peace be upon him said every child of Adam errs, and the best of those who err are those who repent, in a report collected by Tirmidhi. Falling again does not cancel the earlier repentance; it calls for another one.
