The meaning

What Mirath means in Islam

It is also called 'ilm al-fara'id, the science of the fixed portions, and it is the most mathematical corner of fiqh. The order is debts first, then any bequest up to a third, then the shares. Some heirs take a stated fraction while the remainder passes to the nearest male agnate, and because the cases interlock, one heir's presence can change another's share entirely. Most families need someone who knows the subject to work an estate out correctly.
