The meaning

What Darurah means in Islam

The Qur'an allows a starving person to eat forbidden meat without sin, provided he is not seeking to transgress. Jurists built a maxim on it, that necessity makes the forbidden permitted, and bounded it with a second, that necessity is measured strictly by its extent. Hardship and inconvenience are not darurah; the classical threshold is real danger to life, limb, mind, lineage or property.
