The meaning
What Bay' means in Islam
The Qur'an states that Allah has permitted trade and forbidden riba, and the Prophet himself worked as a merchant before prophethood. A valid sale needs a known price, a known item the seller can actually deliver, ownership or authority to sell it, and consent untouched by deception. Fiqh names many specific forms, among them salam, paid now and delivered later, and murabahah, sold at a disclosed markup.
