The meaning
What Ali ibn Abi Talib means in Islam
He was the first child to accept Islam and slept in the Prophet's bed on the night of the Hijrah so the assassins would think he was still there. He married Fatimah, carried the banner at Khaybar, and was known for both learning and courage. His caliphate, from the thirty fifth to the fortieth year, was consumed by the first civil war; he moved the capital to Kufa and was killed in its mosque. Sunnis count him the fourth of the rightly guided caliphs; Shia hold him to be the first Imam and the rightful successor from the start.
