عمار بن ياسر
Ammar ibn Yasir
Tortured beside his parents; the Prophet promised his family Paradise.
The account
Son of Yasir and Sumayyah, the household on whom Makkah tested its cruelty. The Prophet ﷺ would pass their torture and say: "Patience, family of Yasir, your appointed place is Paradise." Under torment that no flesh sustains, Ammar spoke words of relief with a heart at rest in faith, and revelation excused his very case: "except one who is compelled while his heart is secure in iman" (16:106). He dug the Trench with a double share of dust, and the Prophet said of him: "Ammar is filled with faith to his collarbones." The word he ﷺ gave him: "you will be killed by the transgressing party", settled at Siffin, where the old man fell asking for milk, remembering his Prophet's sign.
