The Qarin, Assigned Companion
“Even me,” he ﷺ said: “but Allah helped me against him, and he submitted.”
The account
"There is no one among you but a companion from the jinn has been assigned to him." They said: Even you, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Even me, but Allah helped me against him, and he aslama (submitted / I am safe from him), so he commands me with nothing but good" (Muslim 2814). The qarin is the whisperer posted closest of all: on the Day he disowns his man: "Our Lord, I did not make him transgress; he was himself in far error" (50:27), and the two arrive together, companion turned accuser: "his qarin will say: this is what is ready with me" (50:23). The defense the Prophet ﷺ prescribed is not exorcism but dhikr: the whisperer "shrinks when Allah is remembered." The Codex sets this seal beside Iblis: the general has a soldier stationed on every heart, and the heart holds the high ground with two words of remembrance.
