Al-'Aziz

The Almighty, whom nothing overcomes

The essay

The root holds two ideas that English separates: strength and preciousness. What is truly strong cannot be worn down; what is truly precious cannot be replaced. Al-'Aziz is the One nothing overcomes and nothing is like. The Qur'an almost always pairs it with another Name: the Mighty, the Wise; the Mighty, the Forgiving, because raw might unqualified is exactly what people fear in their rulers, and He does not present Himself that way even once.

In the Qur'an

It is He who shapes you in the wombs however He wills. There is no god but Him, the Almighty, the Wise.

Qur'an 3:6

What it asks of you
