The Unique, who has no second

The essay
Wahid and Ahad are not synonyms. Ahad is the more absolute: not one of a series, not one that could be joined by a second, not one that has parts. It is used of Him in the surah that the Prophet is reported to have called equal to a third of the Qur'an, and the surah is four lines long. He is One. He begets not and is not begotten. And there is nothing comparable to Him.
