Julaybib · a Light
He asked after one man and found him among the dead
Julaybib was a poor man of unknown lineage in Madinah, short and thought unattractive, with no family to speak for him. The Prophet ﷺ arranged his marriage himself, going to a man of the Ansar to ask for his daughter and receiving a refusal until the girl herself agreed to it. After a battle he asked the companions whether they had lost anyone. They named their dead. He said that he had lost Julaybib, and went looking until he found him lying beside seven men he had killed before they killed him. He carried the body himself and said: he is of me and I am of him. Nobody else had counted him.
