He never saw me without smiling at me

Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali was a tall man of the tribe of Bajila who came to Islam late, in the ninth year after the migration. His summary of his time with the Prophet ﷺ was two facts. He was never once refused anything he asked for, and he was never seen by him without being smiled at. Abdullah ibn al-Harith, another companion, said he had never met anyone who smiled more. What comes out of these small statements is not a solemn man. Several reports describe him laughing until his back teeth showed, though nobody describes him laughing loudly, and none of his recorded jokes are at anybody's expense.
