Ramadan · a Light
He spent the last ten nights of Ramadan in the mosque
Aisha reported that the Prophet ﷺ kept i'tikaf, seclusion in the mosque, during the last ten days of Ramadan every year until the end of his life. She also said that when those ten nights came he would tighten his waist wrapper, stay awake at night, and wake his family. I'tikaf is a physical withdrawal. A man with a household, a mosque and a state took ten days a year and did not leave the building. The schools differ on the minimum period, some holding it to be a single night and others a day. What the reports agree on is that he did not treat the last third of the month like the first two.
