Abdurrahman · a Light

Offered half of another man's wealth, he asked for the market

When the migrants reached Madinah with nothing, the Prophet ﷺ paired each of them with a man of the city. Sa'd ibn al-Rabi offered Abdurrahman ibn Awf half of his property. Abdurrahman answered: may Allah bless you in your family and your wealth, show me the market. He went to it, traded in dried yoghurt and butter, and before long came to the Prophet ﷺ with the yellow trace of perfume on him and said that he had married. He was told to hold a wedding meal even if only with one sheep. He died among the wealthiest men in Madinah, and the whole of it began with a refusal of charity.
