The chapter
The tyrant who claimed "I am your lord, most high," who called the Nile his own making, who slaughtered a generation of boys and enslaved a nation, ended in the space between two walls of suspended sea.
The Qur'an records the last seconds with clinical precision: "When drowning overtook him, he said: I believe that there is no god except the One in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims." Every word calculated even in death, the credal formula recited like a password. The answer came from above the water: "Now?, when you have disobeyed before and were of the corrupters?" There is a moment after which belief is merely description, not submission. Pharaoh found it. The Prophet ﷺ taught the same boundary for every soul: Allah accepts the repentance of His servant so long as the soul has not reached the throat.
Then the strangest mercy in the story, granted not to the man but to the corpse: "So today We will save you in your body, that you may be a sign to those after you." The empire sank; the body surfaced. The people who had worshipped him needed to see the god drowned; and the Qur'an appointed his remains a permanent exhibit against every throne that forgets it is mortal. "And indeed, many among mankind are heedless of Our signs."
The verse of inheritance closed the story: "How many gardens and springs they left behind, and crops and noble stations, and comfort in which they used to delight! Thus, and We caused another people to inherit them." Not one soldier of Bani Israel fought for those gardens; the decree simply changed the names on the deeds.
For the Path, this node is the counterweight to Nimrod's debate: two kings who claimed lordship, one dumbfounded by an argument, one drowned by the sea he taxed. And it is the dark mirror of the basket: the Nile that carried the infant deliverer to Pharaoh's house carried Pharaoh's body back to the shore of history.
