With the sea before them and Pharaoh behind, Musa struck the sea with his staff. It parted. Bani Israel crossed on dry paths between walls of water. Pharaoh and his hosts followed; the sea closed over them. The Quran preserves Pharaoh's last statement of belief when the drowning overtook him, and the reply that his body would be saved as a sign for those after him.
This node is the climax of the Musa arc that began with the basket on the Nile, continued through Madyan, the fire in the sacred valley, the confrontations in the palace, and the plagues. The sea split is not a private miracle for Musa alone; it is the public deliverance of a people and the public end of a tyrant who had said I am your most high lord.
Classical narrative and the Quranic retellings emphasize both the terror of the moment and the calm of the command: strike the sea. The same staff that became a serpent in Pharaoh's court now opened a road. The same Lord who had returned Musa as an infant to his mother's breast under Pharaoh's roof now drowned Pharaoh in the water of the Nile's greater basin. On the Path, the sea split sits between Sinai's call and the later trials of Bani Israel with the tablets and the cow, deliverance does not end the test of obedience.
Pharaoh drowned is the companion node: the body as sign, the end of a claim to divinity, the warning for every later tyrant. Isa would later be raised, not killed, under a different tyrant's pressure; Muhammad would leave Makkah under assassination plots and return at Fath Makkah with amnesty. The sea of Musa is one of the great liberation signs of Qisas al-Anbiya.
