The Light
- The rootن و ر
- From the rootnur: light; that by which other things are seen
The essay
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. Then the verse does not explain; it gives an image, a niche, a lamp, glass like a brilliant star, oil from a blessed tree that would almost glow untouched by fire, light upon light. The Book chose a parable where an argument would have been possible, which is itself the teaching. Light is not one visible thing among others. It is the condition under which anything is visible at all.
In the Qur'an
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The likeness of His light is a niche, and in it a lamp.
this Name is in the Qur’an
