الْمَجِيد
Al-Majeed
The Most Glorious
- The rootم ج د
- From the rootmajuda: to be glorious, noble, abundant in honour
The essay
Majd is glory that combines two things: honour so complete it cannot be added to, and generosity so wide it cannot be exhausted. Arabic uses the word for a lineage that is noble and a giving that is lavish, and Al-Majeed is both at once. The verse attaches it to the Throne, the Owner of the Glorious Throne, placing the greatest created thing next to the One who owns it, so the scale of the second is read off the first.
In the Qur'an
What it asks of you
Glory and generosity are the same trait in Him. If yours have come apart, one of them is fake.
