The Ninety-Nine Names · the 35th name
الشَّكُور
Ash-Shakur
The Most Appreciative, who repays little with much
- The rootش ك ر
- From the rootshakara: to be grateful; of an animal, to give much milk on little fodder
The essay
The root's agricultural sense is the key: a beast described as shakur gives far more than the feed would explain. He is the One who repays a little with much and thanks the one who owed Him everything. A moment of restraint no one saw, a coin given quietly, a good intention that never got to act: the Book says these are received, kept, and multiplied. The exchange rate is not fair. It is deliberately not fair.
In the Qur'an
وَمَن يَقۡتَرِفۡ حَسَنَةٗ نَّزِدۡ لَهُۥ فِيهَا حُسۡنًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ شَكُورٌ
Whoever earns a good deed, We increase for him the good of it. Allah is Much-Forgiving, Most Appreciative.
