Mercy and the womb come from the same three letters

The root r h m gives rahma, mercy, and rahim, the womb. It gives al-Rahman and al-Rahim, the two names of God that open every chapter of the Qur'an, and it gives the ordinary Arabic word for kinship, since relatives are the people connected through a womb. The Prophet ﷺ reported Allah saying that He is al-Rahman, that He created the rahim and derived its name from His own name, and that whoever keeps it joined He will keep joined, and whoever cuts it off He will cut off. The formula recited before every reading of the Qur'an rests on the same three letters as the organ that carried the reader.
