He mended his own sandal and helped in the house

Aisha was asked what the Prophet ﷺ did at home. Her answer was that he was in the service of his family, and when the call to prayer came he went out to it. In other reports preserved from her he is described mending his sandal, patching his own garment and milking the sheep, doing in his house what any of you does in his. These accounts are given no chapter of their own in the law books because they establish nothing legal. They survive because someone asked a plain question about a private man and got a plain answer, and because the answer surprised people who expected a head of state to be waited on.
