What it actually costs to keep this open

None of this is paid by advertising, by selling anything, or by anyone’s institution. One person carries it, out of his own pocket, and has decided to keep carrying it for as long as he is able. That is a promise, not a complaint. But every gift moves the day further away when the choice becomes hard.

✦Keeps the doors open. Servers, the Qur'an text and recitation services, and the daily light, paid for, so no reader ever has to pay.
✦Builds new rooms. The Mushaf, the 25 Prophets, the Kids' Codex, the companions: every room was built free. Your gift builds the next one.
✦Carries the light further. The Codex is preparing to speak every major language of the ummah. Gifts bring that day closer.
✦Gives onward. As a standing commitment of the keeper, 2.5% of everything received is set aside for zakat-eligible causes (9:60). That share is not the Codex’s to spend and never will be. What remains keeps this place running — servers, domains, the tools it is built with — and supports the one who builds it, so that carrying the Codex can one day be his work rather than what is left of his nights. No figures are published here and no project is named. A record is kept, privately and exactly, and its real accounting is with Allah.

Is this zakat? No. Your gift here is sadaqa, voluntary charity. The Codex is not a registered charity, issues no tax receipt, and does not ask for your zakat. Zakat is its own obligation, 2.5% of the wealth you have held for a year, and it belongs to the eight categories named in the Qur'an (9:60). Give it wherever you judge best; it does not have to be here, and the reward of it is not ours to hold. What we do promise is the other direction: 2.5% of what is received here is set aside and given onward to those same categories. Details in Terms & Privacy.

Why not ads? Because a place of remembrance should be quiet. We chose no ads and no trackers on purpose, which leaves the Codex with one honest lifeline: you.
