Twenty-five are named in the Qur'an. But the chain of light is vastly longer: "We sent messengers before you: of some We have told you their story, and of some We have not told you." A well-known narration of Abu Dharr counts one hundred and twenty-four thousand prophets across humanity. Every people, every valley, every forgotten age: someone stood up among them and said the same words: worship Allah alone.

Ghafir 40:78

وَإِن مِّنْ أُمَّةٍ إِلَّا خَلَا فِيهَا نَذِيرٌ

"And there was never a nation but a warner passed among them." (Fatir 35:24) · So this page honors not only the 25 lamps we can name, but the thousands upon thousands we cannot: unnamed in our books, remembered in full by Allah. Not one of their strivings is lost.

The count of 124,000 (and 315 messengers among them) is narrated from Abu Dharr in Musnad Ahmad; scholars differ on its chain while the vastness it points to is affirmed by the Qur'an itself (40:78, 4:164). We report it as it is: beloved, widespread, and honest about its grading.

مَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّن رُّسُلِهِ
