One of the rivers of mercy in the hadith, and the site of the last gold rush, which the wise are ordered to skip.
The account
Mesopotamia's great river carries two entries in the sound tradition, one gentle and one grim. The gentle: on the Night Journey the Prophet ﷺ saw four rivers issuing from the base of the Lote Tree, "two hidden and two apparent," and the two apparent were identified as the Nile and the Euphrates (Muslim 164): rivers of this world honored with a heavenly source-marking, which the scholars read as blessing, not plumbing.
The grim entry is a checkable prophecy: "the Hour will not rise until the Euphrates uncovers a mountain of gold, over which the people will fight, and of every hundred, ninety-nine will be killed, each of them saying: perhaps I will be the one who survives" (Bukhari 7119, Muslim 2894). The instruction attached is rare in eschatology, a direct order for the finder: "whoever is present, let him take nothing from it." A retreating river, an exposed treasure, and a fatality rate of ninety-nine percent driven by one sentence of private optimism. The minor signs node carries it in sequence; the Codex maps the river itself as the tradition's monument to the last thing the dying world will fight over, and the first thing the believer is told to walk past.
