The chapter
Between Adam and Nuh the Qur'an names one figure and gives him two lines of praise that scholars have contemplated ever since: "And mention in the Book Idris. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. And We raised him to a high station."
Ṣiddīq, a man of complete truthfulness, and nabī, a prophet. The pairing matters: before law, before scripture as later nations knew it, prophethood already existed, and its core was truthfulness with Allah. In Surah al-Anbiya he is listed with Isma'il and Dhul-Kifl: "all were of the patient."
The "high station" was shown to the final Messenger ﷺ directly. On the night of the Mi'raj, ascending through the heavens, he met Idris in the fourth heaven. "Welcome, righteous brother and righteous prophet," Idris said, the greeting recorded in the authentic narrations of the ascent. What the Qur'an stated in one verse, the Prophet ﷺ saw with his eyes: Idris, raised high.
Classical tradition, Ibn Kathir and the historians, preserves what the earliest communities remembered of him: that he was among the first to write with the pen, the first to sew and wear stitched garments, a man who observed the courses of the stars and taught his people order, measure, and craft. These reports are transmitted as history rather than revelation, and the Codex marks them as such. But they sketch a coherent portrait: the prophet of early civilization, when knowledge itself, writing, craft, computation, was a form of worship passed from a truthful man to a young mankind.
His node stands in the Path as a hinge between the household of Adam and the world of Nuh: mankind multiplying, learning, building, and beginning, slowly, to forget.
