الْمُجِيب

Al-Mujib

The Responsive, who answers the one who calls

The essay

He answers. The Qur'an's phrasing is careful and often missed: I respond to the call of the caller when he calls Me. It does not say the answer will be the thing requested, and the Book is honest that you may hate what is good for you and love what is not. The reports describe three doors: the thing itself, something better in its place, or the whole weight of it held over for later. The one thing the Book does not allow is the call going nowhere.

In the Qur'an

فَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُوهُ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِۚ إِنَّ رَبِّي قَرِيبٞ مُّجِيبٞ

Ask His forgiveness, then turn back to Him. My Lord is near, and answers.

Qur'an 11:61

What it asks of you

Ask for the specific thing, in your own words, in your own language, and then accept that the answer may arrive in a form you did not submit.
