The Ninety-Nine Names · the 27th name
Al-Basir
The All-Seeing
- The rootب ص ر
- From the rootbasura: to see, to perceive with insight as well as with the eye
The essay
The root covers sight and insight, so this is not surveillance. He sees the act and He sees what the act was for, which is the only way justice is possible at all: two identical actions with different intentions are not the same action, and only a seeing that reaches the intention can tell them apart. He sees the good you did that nobody credited you for, and the good you did that was actually about being seen.
In the Qur'an
